The short answer
For most Calamvale shops and food outlets, the first channel is a well kept Google Business Profile, then local search, then paid social, with Google Ads saved for higher value services. The right mix depends on whether customers find you by walking past or by searching first. We plan it with you and run it in house.
Trading within sight of Calamvale Central
Calamvale Central is one of the busiest neighbourhood centres on the southside, and the tenancies in and around it cover most of what a family needs in a week. Grocers, bakeries, takeaway and sit down food, hair and beauty, tutoring, medical and allied health, all within a short walk of each other and a quick drive from Beaudesert Road and Compton Road.
The shoppers come from Calamvale and from Stretton, Algester, Parkinson and Drewvale. Many are regulars. Many are doing the weekly shop and deciding on the spot where to grab lunch or which pharmacy to duck into. The customer base is very multicultural, and a lot of people use their phones in a language other than English.
That changes the channel question. A lot of your marketing is already done by the sign and the foot traffic. What's left is catching the decision made on a phone in the car park, and giving the regulars a reason to come back instead of trying the place two doors down.
Matching the channel to how your customers arrive
Google Business Profile does most of the work.
For a shop in a centre, the map panel is the storefront people see before they walk in. Correct hours, recent photos, a real category and a steady flow of reviews matter more than anything else on this list. It's the core of local SEO.
Local search earns the planned visits.
Someone deciding in advance, for a tutoring centre or a physio, searches the service and the suburb. A website page for each service catches them.
Facebook and Instagram suit the visual and the repeat.
Food, cakes, beauty and fashion do well on social media, and paid social can reach households in the surrounding suburbs without needing them to search.
Google Ads suits higher value, planned purchases.
Clinics, education providers and specialty services can justify paid search. A takeaway usually can't, because the margin on a single order won't cover the click.
Some channels aren't worth it for most shops here.
A regular blog, broad awareness campaigns and radio style video ads rarely pay for a single tenancy. We'll say so before you spend on them.
What "near me" means inside a shopping centre
When dozens of businesses share one address, small details decide who shows up. Your listing needs the shop number, the right category and a pin placed on your tenancy, not the middle of the car park. Directions and entrance notes help people find you inside the centre.
Proximity does the rest. Someone searching from the car park sees the closest options first, which is good news for everyone in the centre and means the tie breakers are reviews, photos and whether the hours are right. Sunnybank Hills is close enough that its shops appear in some Calamvale searches, especially for food. For many retail categories, though, a complete, active profile is enough to hold your own.

"We tried Facebook ads and got nothing."
Common, and usually a targeting or offer problem rather than a channel problem. We'll look at what ran before suggesting anything.
