The short answer
We run SEO for Geelong businesses: technical fixes, service and location pages, Google Business Profile work and links. Most Geelong categories are far less contested than their Melbourne equivalents, so terms usually move in weeks rather than a year. You get a written audit before anything starts, and there's no lock in contract.
Geelong search is thinner than you've been told
Nearly everyone who rings us about search here has priced it against Melbourne. They've heard what a Melbourne retainer costs and how long it takes to show anything, and quietly decided SEO is a problem for later. That judgement is usually wrong, and you can test it yourself in fifteen minutes.
Search the term you actually want, then count three things on the first page. How many results are Geelong businesses rather than directories, chains or Melbourne firms. How many are a proper service page rather than a home page doing the work of eight. And when the site at the top last published anything.
Do that in Melbourne and you find four competitors with deep content, a decade of links and an agency behind each. Do it in Geelong and you often find a home page last touched in 2019, one page titled Services, and a Business Profile in the wrong category. The market never got contested, because the demand was never big enough to attract a fight.
So work needing twelve months and a real link budget in Melbourne can move here in a couple of months, onto a first page with fewer people on it. Whoever does it properly first tends to hold the spot for years, because nobody else in town is doing it either.
Not every category, though. Personal injury law, dentistry and mortgage broking draw Melbourne firms bidding and publishing on Geelong terms deliberately. We'll tell you which situation you're in before you spend anything, because the two need different budgets and different patience.
What that looks like in health, which is much of Geelong now
The city's largest employers sit in health and education now: University Hospital Geelong, the Deakin campus at Waurn Ponds, and the allied health practices grown up around both through Newtown, Belmont and Highton.
Two things change for that group. Patients search by discipline and suburb, not by clinic name, so physio waurn ponds, psychologist geelong and paediatric speech therapist bellarine each want their own page, with the practitioners named and registrations on it. The searcher is checking whether you treat their exact problem, and one page listing eleven services answers nobody.
The copy also carries rules. Practitioners registered with Ahpra cannot use testimonials about clinical services in advertising, or claim results a treatment will not reliably produce. We write inside that, describing the condition, the assessment and what a first appointment involves instead of promising an outcome. A general agency writes the promise first and the practice takes it down later.
What we actually do
Technical first, because it's the cheapest ground to make up: crawling and indexing, page speed, internal linking, and schema.
Then the pages. One per service, one per town you genuinely serve, written by someone who understood the work first.
Then local: Business Profile categories and services, photos, a review habit your front desk can keep up, and consistent details across the directories that matter. Then links, which in a regional city come from sponsorship, suppliers and industry bodies rather than anything bought.
One city, two peninsulas, and what that does to the map
Greater Geelong is spread out in a way that changes local results. Your pin proves where you are and Google weighs how close the searcher is to it, so a clinic in Newtown can rank all day in Newtown and stay invisible to someone searching from Ocean Grove.
That's fixed with pages and reviews, not a second address. If you serve Torquay, Drysdale or Corio, each needs a page describing the work you do there, and reviews from customers there beat another citation every time. Renting a mailbox for a second pin is a suspension waiting to happen. Our own address changes none of it, since Google gives a Brisbane office no weight in a Geelong search.
Beyond the city itself
Same work, different catchments: Newtown, Belmont, Corio, Waurn Ponds, plus Ocean Grove and Drysdale on the Bellarine and Torquay on the Surf Coast. Up the highway we run the same pattern for Manor Lakes and Mickleham, and if your buyers sit in the city, SEO in Melbourne is a different fight with a different budget. The build itself sits on website design in Geelong, and the full list is on our service areas page.
How a campaign starts
The audit, in writing
Technical faults, page gaps, and what the businesses above you do that you don't.
Targets and a number
Which terms we chase in the first ninety days, what it costs, what we expect them to be worth.
The work, in order of payback
Fixes first, then pages, then profile and links.
Reporting a human can read
Calls and enquiries at the top, rankings underneath, and a plain explanation of any bad month.
Why clients here stay with us
Enquiries, not screenshots.
Position four for a term nobody in Geelong searches is worth nothing, and we won't report it as a win.
Search and ads in the same room.
Keyword data from one feeds the other, which is the argument for one marketing agency in Geelong rather than three suppliers.
Month to month.
No lock in contract, and Search Console, Analytics and your Business Profile stay in your name.
"Wouldn't a Geelong agency understand our market better?"
You're not really asking about proximity, you're asking whether we've done this before in a market like yours. Ask us that, ask them that, and ask both for a client you can ring. Our office is at Pallara in Brisbane, there isn't a Victorian one, and none of it affects where you rank.
